Kinja'd!!!

well i got this stupid fucking thing on:

Kinja'd!!!

and now the fucking van barely starts. I have a P0300 code. fuck. The rubber thing that came of definitely had a tear in it so I was expecting that to fix this shit. nope.

I ordered 6 new spark plugs and noticed it was low on gas, so i’m going to fill up a 3 gallon tank and drop that in there and replace the plugs. Then we’ll see if the mountain has another fucking peak over this ridge.

I would assume that the computer has been “learning” how to deal with the faulty air flows caused by the extra air coming in through the leak , so I would start by disconnecting the battery so the computer goes back to factory defaults. It might be something  that simple and it’s something free to try before throwing parts at it.

To add to this, if the Quest uses throttle by wire,  make sure the throttle body is clean before doing this. Otherwise, you’ll have issues when it tries to relearn idle - ask me how I know...

Low gas could actually be an issue in these vans —I recall one of the magazines back in the day had a long term fourth-gen Quest cut-out on a hill with a quarter of a tank remaining because of how the pickup was placed, although with your experience with this van I’d imagine you’d know if it had that idiosyncrasy .

Yea i was thinking that could also be an issue. that is ont he list to do when i do the plugs, which at 100k miles, should be done anyway. the problem is traverse V6 so the second bank in behind and under the da sh and intake manifold

That was one of the jobs I wasn’t looking forward to on our Explorer. The dealership quoted $600 to change the plugs, mostly because step one wa s to drop the engine out of the chassis.

And people complain about changing plugs on Subarus!

I’ll take changing the plugs on a front mounted boxer any day over a transverse V6.

wow that sux.  from what i’ve seen, I dont have to deal with that, i just have a few bolts i need to blindly remove from the back of the manifold

I was shocked when they gave me the quote. I found two alternate methods. One required a lift so you could reach them from the bottom. The other required removing the intake to create enough room to squeeze in from the top. Neither sounded appealing for just changing the plugs.
